The Hague Convention
Member of the Hague Convention.
Japan has adopted the Hague Convention regarding the abolishment of legalisation of foreign general documents.
The purpose of the convention is to abolish the requirement for diplomatic or consular legalisation of foreign general documents.
This procedure shall be replaced by a unified and simple certification issued by a qualified authority in the country from which the documents originate.
Instead of the general documents being legalised by the embassy or consulate, an APOSTILLE will be issued by a Notary Public.
Issued by Notary Public.
