The Hague Convention
Member of the Hague Convention.
Belgium has adopted the Hague Convention regarding the abolishment of legalisation of foreign general documents.
The purpose of the convention is to abolish the requirement for diplomatic or consular legalisation of foreign general documents.
This procedure shall be replaced by a unified and simple certification issued by a qualified authority in the country from which the documents originate.
Instead of general documents being legalised by the embassy or consulate, an APOSTILLE is issued by the Foreign Ministry.
Remember that the Foreign Ministry cannot directly authenticate all documents, certain documents must be certified by, for example, a Notary Public before the Foreign Ministry can approve the document.
In Denmark, only the Foreign Ministry can issue an Apostille.
Issued by the Foreign Ministry.
